Bohemians 1 UCD 0

Christy Fagan made a telling full return for Bohemians to give them a first home win in seven outings.

Pat Fenlon's side hadn’t won at Dalymount since beating Drogheda United back in March. That was Fagan’s last start in Phibsboro and he once again showed excellent touch, feet and awareness, capping his display by forcing and scoring his sie's match winning penalty.

With Glen Cronin and Ger O’Brien also back, Fenlon could field arguably his strongest team this season.

But it was UCD, win a gusting wind at their backs, who started the better and might have found themselves ahead after just three minutes. Bohemians' keeper Chris O’Connor’s loose clearance fell to Dean Marshall who just never got hold of his attempted chip which was easily cleared.

There was another let off for Bohemians on 19 minutes when Paul O’Conor chipped wide with only O’Connor to beat before Bohemians finally threatened for the first time minutes later.

Robert Bayly would find Ger Barron on his game, though, as the UCD keeper saved well with his feet following a poor defensive clearance.

Barron was beaten on 25 minutes when Fagan confidently shot home from the penalty spot after UCD skipper Michael Leahy handled his shot inside the area.

Fagan was enjoying himself now and he stretched Barron with a crisp header from Keith Buckley’s cross on the half hour.

But UCD very much remained a threat and they’ll have been disappointed not to have been level at half-time as Darren Meenan was twice narrowly off target with shots just before the break.

Bohs had the wind at their backs from the resumption and Killian Brennan rattled the bar with a free-kick six minutes in before firing another deadball just wide three minutes later.

Brennan set-up Buckley to cut in and bring a comfortable stop from Barron before Brennan forced the College keeper to push another free-kick round a post on 64 minutes.

A tired Fagan would have a final cameo before being taken off on 78 minutes when controlling Brennan’s pass on his chest, turning adroitly and firing just wide.

O’Brien might then have added a second in the final minute, shooting agonisingly wide after a terrific run from left-back.
