Airtricity announced as u19 League sponsor

The Football Association of Ireland today confirmed that it has reached agreement with Airtricity to become title sponsor of the Under 19 League.


The Airtricity Under 19 League is in its first season and is an important part of the player pathway for the development of young elite players, giving them an opportunity to grow their game with the benefit of coaching, facilities and competition at top clubs.

In its inaugural season, Cork City have played ten matches and are two points clear of Waterford Utd with a game in hand in the Airtricity Under 19 League Elite Division. In the Northern Division, Derry City are three points clear of Dundalk and Finn Harps and in the Southern Division, Limerick FC are four points clear of Cobh Ramblers after nine games.

Welcoming the sponsorship, Fran Gavin, Director of the Airtricity League said,

“We are delighted that Airtricity are strengthening their bond with Irish football by becoming title sponsor of the Airtricity Under 19 League. This competition, which is in its first season, is a vital addition to our player pathway. Feedback from clubs and players has been extremely positive and I am very happy that Airtricity will be supporting this important development.”

Underlining the importance of the Airtricity Under 19 League, Wim Koevermans, High Performance Director added,

“The Airtricity Under 19 League is a really important addition for Irish football. It has encouraged the bigger clubs to develop their underage structures and provides a vital opportunity for younger elite players to improve their skills in a competitive and well structured environment. I thank Airtricity for recognising the importance of this competition and for their commitment to Irish football.”

Republic of Ireland Under 19 Head Coach, Paul Doolin said,

“To be competitive internationally, it is important that young elite players who stay in Ireland get regular competitive football at a high level. The Airtricity Under 19 League has filled that gap and is giving many elite players a vital opportunity to progress their career in Ireland at an important stage in their development.”

Welcoming the sponsorship, Kevin Greenhorn, Chief Executive Officer of Airtricity said,
