Waterford United manager Stephen Henderson comes from a proud goalkeeping family - his father, Paddy, was a League of Ireland goalkeeper, as was his brother Dave, while his younger brother Wayne is a current Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper, and his son Stephen currently minds the nets for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team.
Following a long playing career, Stephen spent four years as the goalkeeping coach at Cork City. However, when the managerâs chair at neighbouring Cobh came available midway through the 2004 season, Henderson became the first member of his family to become a senior manager.
He was an instant success at management, guiding the club to 3rd place in the First Division table in 2005 - their highest league placing since 1999 - and 4th place the following season before delivering the club their first ever piece of silverware when he guided Cobh Ramblers to the First Division title in 2007.
The club struggled to bridge the gap between First Division and Premier Division and were relegated from the top flight in 2008. Henderson announced that he was leaving Cobh and subsequently took up the manager's post at Waterford United.
